Our Story Timeline

Driven by compassion, our founders developed a philosophy rooted in respect and a genuine desire to make a difference. This spirit still guides Shelby Emergency Assistance (SEA) today.

  • 1973

     In 1973, a group of caring volunteers came together with a shared vision: to support those in need within our community.

  • 1977

    By 1977, SEA became affiliated with United Way of Central Alabama, expanding our reach and capacity to offer basic needs and social services in Shelby County.

  • 2018

    We moved to our current location enabling us to increase services including an edible garden, shower facility for unhoused clients, and expanded office and food pantry space.

  • 2020

    Thrive Program moved to SEA

  • 2025

    More than 50 years later, we remain committed to providing basic needs and fostering positive change. SEA continues to honor the legacy of those early volunteers, making a lasting impact on the lives of our neighbors with understanding and hope.
